Remembrance Day

 Hello Families,

On November 10 we will be celebrating Remembrance Day. We will be having a short video assembly on that day. Remembrance Day is a day where we mark the sacrifice of the many who have fallen in the service of their country, and to acknowledge the courage of those who still serve.

One of the most important things to remember is that many of those who served were not much older than a grade 9 student. Some of these men and women left high school and university to fly planes and man warships. Many stormed beaches, and fought in bunkers, and many did not make it to the age of 21.  They had bright futures, but they left the excitement, promises of graduation and sharing good times at home to serve. They understood that this would put their lives at risk, but they went anyway.  They left family and friends, jobs and schools...and off they went.

Remembrance Day is the time to honor those who have left homes and family and friends, and those who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the name of justice and peace.  It also gives us an opportunity to reflect on how we respond to those in need of justice.

If your child is currently a member of scouts, cadets, girl guides, or a similar organization they are encouraged to dress in their uniforms to acknowledge the day.

Have a great day,

Ms. Youngblood
